Configuring an Apple iOS device for the BCS/CVS/ASL mail system

  1. Go into 'Settings', then select 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars'.
  2. In the 'Accounts' box, select 'Add Account...'.
  3. From the list of account types, pick the last option, 'Other'.
  4. Select 'Add Mail Account'.
  5. On the next page, enter your real name, e-mail address, and e-mail password, then tap the 'Next' button.
  6. The device will then attempt to look up the account info, and should display a new page full of settings.
  7. Select IMAP or POP for the mail account type. If unsure which is right for you, read this page: ImapOrPop

  8. For both the 'Incoming Mail Server' and 'Outgoing Mail Server' info, enter the following:

Host Name: cvs.rochester.edu

User Name: your full e-mail address IF YOU ARE BCS OR ASL USER, or just the part of your e-mail address before the "@" symbol IF YOU ARE A CVS USER

Password: enter your password (it may already be entered for the 'Incoming Mail Server' setting

  1. Tap the 'Next' button. The device will now try to verify your settings.
  2. Once verified, you sould see a window that allows you to choose whether to use Mail or Notes with this account. Turn off Notes, but leave Mail on. Tap the 'Save' button.
  3. Your account should now be added, and you should be returned to the main window that shows your various accounts. Select the account you just created from the list, then tap on the address in the resulting window.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and select the 'Advanced' option.
  5. Under the 'Incoming Settings' header, 'Use SSL' should be on. Set the 'Authentication' field to 'MD5 Challenge-Response', then tap the 'Account' button to return to the previous screen.
  6. Tap the 'SMTP' field, then select the 'cvs.rochester.edu' server. Ensure that 'Use SSL' is on, and that the 'Authentication' field is set to 'MD5 Challenge-Response'. Then tap the 'Done' button.
  7. At this point, mail should work. Return to the Mail app, and ensure you can both receive and send e-mail.
