= Age-of-Acquisition Effects =

So, three papers on age-of-acquisition effects. In order of subjectively judged intriguingness:

1. Lewis, Gerhand, & Ellis (2001). Re-evaluating age-of-acquisition
effects: are they simply cumulative-frequency effects? Cognition 78:289-205.

2. Hodgson & Ellis (1998). Last in, First to Go: Age of Acquisition and
Naming in the Elderly. Brain and Language, 64:146-163.

3. Zevin & Seidenberg (2002). (OPTIONAL.) Age of Acquisition Effects in Word Reading and Other Tasks. Journal of Memory and Language.

The Lewis, Gerhand, and Ellis paper summarizes many of the studies that found age-of-acquisition effects, so the Zevin & Seidenberg can be optional. I'll make a few slides on various places where people have reported finding AOA effects, and we can discuss them in the context of the Lewis, Gerhand, & Ellis claim that AOA effects may not be wholly independent of cumulatively frequency.
