 * Edited draft for the Pen in Mouth writeup.
 * Coordinated RA activities - we have 2 complete run throughs of the eyetracking list now that are being compiled into one big file.
 * Started reading for quals. Set up Strides app (suggestion of Amanda) and realized that I should ramp up the reading rate.
 * Looked at Wesley's frequency output for perceptual learning words to see if our Tongue Twister stimuli was lower frequency compared to other studies.

Awe- and Aw-inspiring readings (or just stuff you think deserves a mention)

What we did over last week

Florian

  1. Edited NSF grant proposal with Scott Fraundorf. Prepped most of the other materials I'll have to upload. I think we're in pretty good shape! Another day of editing that I have to magically find somewhere.

  2. Proofs for Frontiers paper with Kodi on salience and what the heck it is (he kindly did most of it).

  3. Edited through intro to Hall et al on The message drives phonology.

  4. Edited Esteban's thesis Ch. 4 and we discussed a major reorganization.

  5. Edited Letter for the editor for Ting's Cognition paper on implicit learning under non-stationarity.

  6. Attended LabPhon. Missed most posters from the lab due to car problems but saw Dave's talk.

Kodi

  1. Presented a couple of posters at LabPhon on accent adaptation. I was delighted by the level of engagement and enthusiasm from the conference attendees. Lots of interest in the projects.

  2. Proofs for Frontiers paper with Florian on sociolinguistic "salience" and language processing.

  3. Had a long meeting with Xin, primarily walking through the ideal adapter overview paper with Maryam, Dave, Chigusa and Flo -- but also discussing strategies for efficient workflow (e.g., reproducible reporting.
  4. Continued packing for the now imminent move

Xin

  • Attended labphon, got a few inspirational thoughts
  • Read some Bayesian papers (Griffiths et al.,2010; Xu & Tenenbaum, 2007a,b; Tenenbaum & Griffiths, 2001; Tenenbaum et al., 2006; Feldman et al.,2013)

  • Thought about research projects and directions that I'd like to follow up; to be discussed with Florian
  • Kodi walked me through the model used in his paper

Andrew

  • Cleaned out lab microwave and defrosted lab fridge
  • Chugged away at CrowdExp

    • Merged project proposal and stimuli design into one as discussed w/ Florian last year
    • Started converting feedback to be inline comment instead of uploaded

Esteban

Dave

  • Attended labphon, gave my talk, and made and presented a poster at the satellite workshop organized by Meghan Clayards and Colin Wilson.
  • Finishing touches on my dissertation, and submitted.

Dan

Amanda

  • Set up a version of the adjective categories task with Wes. Pilot tested a kid, made some changes, tested 2 more, made more changes, testing more this week.
  • Thought about the next step in my kid studies.
  • Went home for my brother's wedding.

Zach

  • Finished my labphon poster
  • Attended labphon, presented my poster
  • Sent all the labphon followup emails and whatnot
  • working on editing subtitle draft

Linda

  • Edited draft for the Pen in Mouth writeup.
  • Coordinated RA activities - we have 2 complete run throughs of the eyetracking list now that are being compiled into one big file.
  • Started reading for quals. Set up Strides app (suggestion of Amanda) and realized that I should ramp up the reading rate.
  • Looked at Wesley's frequency output for perceptual learning words to see if our Tongue Twister stimuli was lower frequency compared to other studies.
