What we'd like to see

Edit to your heart's content.

Why aren't we still using the wiki a lot? No one learned anything since the sharing and caring day with Praat? -Katrina 4/6/09

What we've learned!

PRAAT

Is awesome because its free and downloadable from www.praat.com. It can be used to analyze sound files in terms of spectogram, pitch, formants, intensity, and pulses. Also it can be used to create, cut and paste, shorten, or annotate sound files. To open a sound file in praat go to the praat objects window, read, read from file. To record your own sound file use the praat objects window, new, record mono sound. Once you have a sound file in the objects window you can edit it. Once you have begun editing, to show analysis go to view, show analysis and check any of the options you want. Make sure that the longest analysis setting is as long or longer than your sound file length (for example if your sound file is 6.54 seconds long then you need to enter 7 into the longest analysis box). To cut a portion of the sound file out simply select the portion you wish to move or delete and go to edit, cut. To then paste the portion somewhere else move the cursor and select where you want the portion to begin then go to edit, paste after selection. To annotate a sound file go to new, create text grid. Then select both the text grid and the sound file from the object window and click edit. If you have trouble or need to do something more advanced you can always go to the help menu in the upper right hand corner of the object window.
