RA Meeting, Summer 2016, Week 5

Awe- and Aw-inspiring readings (or just stuff you think deserves a mention)

Example: You can put cool papers or academic-y related things here if you want to share them with everyone else. Like this paper on how cognitive load affects accent processing, which might relate to the pupillometry experiment: https://etd.ohiolink.edu/!etd.send_file?accession=csu1461938923&disposition=inline --Z.B. (You don't have to read this, btw. I still haven't!)

What we did over last week

Zach (example)

  1. Received first feedback on the Subtitle Adaptation project write-up, began correcting edits.
  2. Almost finished the Pupillometry project portion on MTurk
  3. After finding a bug in Linda's code (take THAT, LINDA! jk don't write like this guys) I learned how to use "git cherry-pick" to make a pull request to correct it under Andrew's insistence.
  4. Wrote a lot of emails coordinating projects and work for RAs.

Madeline

  1. Had a lovely vacation in Chicago
  2. Met with Florian to discuss possible independent studies for the summer
  3. Transcribed more subjects for Masha's most recent study

  4. Found out what I'm supposed to do to set up the extra condition for Emily/Larisa's accent adaptation thing
  5. Still looking for 2-3 more monolingual people for Scott's study

Also, some people in Kinder lab are starting a Python/general CS thing for the summer. I'm going to learn how to code in Python without just awkwardly translating from Java. Email Steven Powell/Olga if you want in.
