Instructions for the Xerox Phaser 8860/DN printer

Mac OSX

• Download the Xerox printer installation program: http://www.cvs.rochester.edu/cvspriv/downloads/Phaser8860/

• Double-click on the file to open the installer...a window should appear with an installer in it. Double-click on that file to launch the installer.
• Accept the default options during install.
• Once it finishes, it will display a "Select A Printer" window with three icons in it. Click on the icon on the RIGHT.
• Enter the printer's address.
• From the printer model pulldown menu, select "Xerox Phaser 8860".
• Click on Continue.
• On the next page, check or uncheck the option to print a test page or make this your default printer as you see fit.
• Click on Continue. At this point, you're done.

Windows 7

• Follow these instructions for enabling LPD/LPR printing on your computer: EnableLpdPrinting

• Download and run the appropriate Xerox printer installation program from here: http://www.cvs.rochester.edu/cvspriv/downloads/Phaser8860/

• The program will ask for a directory name that it can use to decompress the installer. Accept the default, and click Install.
• The "Add Printer Wizard" should now start. Click on "Next".
• In the next window, click on "Local printer attached to this computer", but UNcheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer". Click Next.
• In the next window, select "Create a new port" and select "LPR port" from the list. Click Next.
• In the next window, enter the address of the printer in both of the fields. Click Next.
• In the next window, select "Xerox Phaser 8860" from the list of printers. Click Next.
• In the next window, enter something descriptive (if you like) for the printer name, and set it as your default if applicable. Click Next.
• In the next window, select "Do not share this printer". Click Next.
• In the next window, print a test page if you like. Click Next.
• The printer wizard should now complete. Click Finish to end installation.

Windows 10

1.Follow these instructions for enabling LPD/LPR printing on your computer: EnableLpdPrinting

2. Click on Start, then scroll down the the program list to "Windows System" and click on it to expand it. Select "Control Panel". Within the Control Panel window select "Devices and Printers" (if you don't see it click on the "Large Icons" link in the top right corner. Once the "Devices and Printers" control panel is open, select the "Add a Printer" option.

3. The computer will automatically try to scan for printers. Click on the "The printer that I want isn't listed" link at the bottom of the window.

4. Select the option "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings". Click "Next".

5. Click on "Create a new port" and specify the type of port as "LPR Port". Click "Next".

6. In the resulting window, enter the address of the printer (listed at top of this wiki) in both fields. Click "Next".

7. In the driver selection window click on the "Windows Update" button. Windows will now spend a minute or two compiling a list of printer drivers. When the list populates select "Xerox" from the column on the left and "Phaser 8860 V4 PS" from the column on the right. Click the "Next" button.

8. Enter a descriptive printer name, then click the "Next" button.

9. At the UAC window, click "Yes" to allow this app to make changes to your device.

10. The printer will now be added. In the printer sharing window select the option to NOT share the printer, then click the "Next" button.

11. At the test print page, feel free to print a test page. Click "Finish" to complete installation.
