Our Xerox color laser printers will not work if you configure them using Windows "Standard TCP/IP Port" setting...they require LPD printing to function. This is not enabled by default in Windows, but it's easy enough to enable.

Windows XP

  • Click on "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control Panels".

  • Select the "Network Connections" control panel.
  • In the resulting window, click on "Advanced" and select "Optional Networking components".
  • Checkmark the box next to "Other Network File and Print Services".
  • Click Next.
  • Windows should then add a few things and close that window.
  • Close the "Network Connections" window.

Windows 7/10

  • Click on "Start", then "Control Panel".
  • Select the "Programs and Features" control panel.
  • On the left side, click on "Turn Windows features on or off".
  • In the resulting window, click on the "+" symbol next to "Print and Document Services".
  • Checkmark the boxes next to "LPD Print Service" and "LPR Port Monitor".
  • Click on OK to make the changes.
