Instructions for configuring your computer to use a Canon Maxify GX-6021 color multifunction printer
The address for the printer in the CVS MC G-4100 office suite is currently "10.212.67.121"
Windows 10
1. Download the Canon driver software here: http://www.cvs.rochester.edu/cvspriv/downloads/Canon/gx6021_win.exe
2. The file will download to the "Downloads" folder within your user directory (located at "C:\Users\<your_username>\Downloads)" but typing "Downloads" in the search field at the bottom left corner of your desktop should show you a clickable link to it). Double-click the file to run it. The file will decompress and create a folder in your Downloads folder called "md_-win-gx6000-1_01-ea34_2". It will also automatically start a printer setup program. When you see the welcome screen for the printer setup program, click on the "X" in the top right corner of the window to close it and click the resulting "Yes" box to verify that you wanted to do this.
3. In the search box in the bottom left corner of your desktop type in "Control Panel" and select the Control Panel app from the search results.
4. Select the "Devices and Printers" control panel. Select the "Add a Printer" option.
2. Select the option "Add a local printer" towards the top of the window. The control panel will automatically start searching for printers but we don't want that so click the link "The printer that I want isn't listed".
3. Select "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings" from the list of options, then click "Next"
4. Click on "Create a new port" and specify the type of port as "LPR Port". Click "Next".
5. On the "Add Printer" page, enter the address of the printer in both fields (see top of this wiki for printer addresses). Click "Next".
6. In the next window a list of printer drivers will appear. Click on the "Have Disk" button, then the "Browse" button in the next window
7. Navigate to your Downloads folder and go into the "md_-win-gx6000-1_01-ea34_2". Inside of it you'll find a folder called "Driver"...go into that folder. Highlight the file "GX6000P3" and click the "Open" button. Then click the "OK" button.
8. You should now be shown the "Canon GX6000 Series" printer driver...click to highlight it, then click the "Next" button
9. For the Printer name, enter something descriptive. Click "Next".
10. The printer driver should now install (after you allow it to). In the next window (if it appears), click on "Do not share this printer". Click "Next".
11. In the next window (if it appears), try printing a test page. Click "Next". If the test page comes out, you're good to go!
