Xerox Phaser 6500-series printer setup instuctions

These instructions are for configuring a Mac or Windows computer to use a Xerox Phaser 6500/N or 6500/DN printer. We currently have these printers deployed in:

• Meliora 114 (bcs114newcolor.bcs.rochester.edu)
• Meliora 357, the BCS main office (bcsmainoffice.bcs.rochester.edu)
• Yoon Lab at the Med Center (cvs006.urmc-sh.rochester.edu)
• Histology Lab at the Med Center

Setting up your computer to print will involve downloading a program to install the necessary driver on your computer, then adding the printer to your computer.

First step is to download and run the correct printer driver installation program. You'll find what you need here:

For Macs, these programs will only install the driver...you'll need to manually add the printer afterwards. Please follow the Mac instructions under Step 3 on this webpage to do so:

For Windows, the instructions on the wiki page above should be followed pretty much verbatim. You will need to ensure you have LPD/LPR printer support installed, you will need to download the correct driver from the 'Phaser6500' directory listed above, and you will need to follow the generic instructions for adding the printer.

If anybody runs into any problems, please let me know (I've tested the instructions using OSX 10.8 and Windows XP, and everything worked fine). Also please note that these printers are designed for occasional printing, not for printing hundreds of copies of something.
