Windows 7 to 10 upgrade

Option 1: Upgrade existing PC

The process for upgrading a BCS/CVS PC currently running Windows 7 to Window 10 will involve:

1) Making a full bootable backup of the existing Windows 7 boot drive as a precaution

2) Replacing any existing "mechanical" boot drive with a new solid-state hard drive (SSD). This will provide a drastic performance increase at a very minimal cost to you (under $100).

3) Installing Windows 10 Enterprise edition on top of the existing Windows 7 install. Testing has shown that this works pretty well and drastically reduces system downtime compared to doing a "clean" install.

I expect this type of upgrade will take a day to complete.

Option 2: Replace existing PC

Any computer deemed too old to run Windows 10 should be replaced when funds are available. Any new Windows 10 PC will come with Windows 10 pre-installed and I have software that can help migrate data/programs from the old Windows 7 computer to the new Windows 10 computer. An upgrade of this nature will probably take more than a day, as some applications may not migrate correctly and will need to be reinstalled manually.
