Practice Problem - Answers/Results

Developmental changes in ifenprodil binding within a brain region involved in vocal learning

  • Enter the data into Prism and run the appropriate analysis (2way ANOVA followed by posthoc tests). Since this data does not involve repeated measures, you could select to enter mean, SD, n. Just be sure that if you select SD, you are entering SD (rather than SEM)

  • REM: Prism only does posthoc comparisons across columns.
  • Below left is the data table format for Gender posthocs (results shown above)
  • Below right is the format for Age posthocs (results shown below)

  • Finally, construct a summary statement that accurately reflects the results obtained. For example:

2-way ANOVA revealed a significant main effect of Gender (F (1,12) = 39.02, p<.0001), Age (F (1,12) = 37.56, p<.0001) and a significant interaction F (1,12) = 24.85, p<.0003). Posthoc t-tests revealed that ifenprodil binding declined significantly between 20-55d in males (t=7.86, p<.001), but not females. At 20d, binding was already significantly greater in males than in females (t=7.94, p<.001), but the male-specific developmental decline led to levels of binding that were similar between genders by 55d of age.
