Instructions for the Xerox Phaser 4600/DN in G-4106 or G-3000
The address for the printer in G-4106 is "cvs005a.urmc-sh.rochester.edu"
The address for the printer in G-3000 is "cvs004.urmc-sh.rochester.edu"
Windows 10
1. Enabling LPR/LPD support...the instructions for enabling it are here: EnableLpdPrinting
2. Download and run the printer driver installer: https://www.cvs.rochester.edu/cvspriv/downloads/Phaser4600/Phaser_4600_Windows_x64.exe
The installer should store the printer files in the "c:\xerox" folder, and the Windows "Add Printer" wizard should automatically launch afterwards.
3. The computer will automatically try to scan for printers. Click on the "The printer that I want isn't listed" link at the bottom of the window.
4. Select the option "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings". Click "Next".
5. Click on "Create a new port" and specify the type of port as "LPR Port". Click "Next".
6. In the resulting window, enter the address of the printer (listed at top of this wiki) in both fields. Click "Next".
7. In the next window click on "Have Disk". Navigate to the C:\Xerox directory where the driver was decompressed to.
8. 2 printers will appear in a list...select "Xerox Phaser 4600". Click "Next".
9. For the Printer name enter either "CVS005a" or "CVS004" as appropriate. Click "Next".
10. In the next window, click on "Do not share this printer". Click "Next".
11. In the next window, print a test page if you like. Click "Next".
12. In the next (and last) window, click on "Finish". The computer will do what it needs to do, and the printer will be ready to go once the computer is done.
Mac OSX
Download the Xerox printer installation program: http://www.cvs.rochester.edu/cvspriv/downloads/Phaser4600/Phaser4600_Mac.dmg.
- Double-click on the file to open the installer...a window should appear with an installer called "Xerox Print Drivers 2.59.0" in it. Double-click on that file to launch the installer.
- Accept the default options during install.
- Once it finishes, it will display a "Select A Printer" window with three icons in it. Click on the icon on the RIGHT.
Enter the printer's address: cvs005a.urmc-sh.rochester.edu for the printer in G-4106, or cvs004.urmc-sh.rochester.edu for the printer in G-3000.
From the printer model pulldown menu, select Xerox Phaser 4600. The list may be long...the 4600 is near the middle.
- Click on Continue.
- On the next page, check or uncheck the option to print a test page or make this your default printer as you see fit.
- Click on Continue. At this point, you're done.
