Vision

Our vision is to create a structure that allows us to load all of the characters and models on all the computers with a Poser Install in such a way that Poser is not processing unwieldy and large runtime files if we can avoid it. BR BR

Any computer that gets poser installed on it should be able to use any and all of the models and textures owned by the lab in the same working day. BR BR

When new models/textures get added to one computer, the model should be made available to all the other computers in the form of a “Service Pack.” All the computers should be updated with the “Service Pack” at least once a year. Once the “Service Pack” has been used to update all the computers, it should be distributed to the correct locations in the main /p/hlp/POSER directory.

Loading Poser on a Windows PC that has not had a Poser Install Before

Please do not just click “Okay” all the way through the install. At one point you will see a screen asking where you would like to place the “Legacy Folder” or the folder that comes with all the pre-installed content. Create new folders as needed so that you put this folder in ‘’’C:\Poser_Runtimes.’’’

Loading Poser Models and Textures on a Windows PC that has not had a Poser Install Before

Steps: 1) Create a Folder in C: called PoserRuntimes (C:\Poser_Runtimes) 2) Copy all of the contents of /p/hlp/POSER/FinalRuntimes into this folder. 3) Open Poser and open the libraries bar on the right side of the screen. 4) Navigate to the top level of the library directories. You should see two preloaded folders: ‘’’Poser Content’’’ and ‘’’Downloads’’’ 5) At the bottom of this you should see a ‘+’ sign. A mouse-over will say “Add Runtime.” Click on the ‘+’ and find the folder you would like to use (from C:\Poser_Runtimes). You need to make sure that you have the folder “Runtime” highlighted. When you click okay, the textures and models will load into poser.

File Location and Size

The Runtime Folders are located under /p/hlp/POSER

/p/hlp/POSER = 8GB to copy everything /textures is 2.14GB /geometries is 1.4 GB /Libraries is 3.15GB

File Library

Currently under construction, this file will serve as a database for finding the poser models and textures.

How to Make New Content

We have a lifetime membership to the [http://www.poserworld.com/Home.aspx PoserWorld] archive, where we can get models and textures. For details see: [wiki:Self/HlpLab/ClipArt here].

New models and textures can also be made with [http://www.blender.org/ Blender] (installed on all computers) and (definitely) [http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/poserpro/index.html PoserPro] (installed on the Dell named Poser). I think Andy has used Blender, maybe? If so perhaps he could expand a bit. There's a free wikibook for Blender called [http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro Blender 3D: Noob to Pro].
