Migrating from Thunderbird to Microsoft Outlook 2016 (Windows)
Step 1: Configure Outlook
By default Microsoft Outlook is not installed on BCS/CVS managed systems...it needs to be added so please contact Chris to have it installed. Once done, University IT has instructions for the initial setup of Outlook here: https://tech.rochester.edu/tutorials/access-office-365-on-windows-using-outlook-non-domain-accounts/
Please note: the process of doing this initial setup will take 5-10 minutes. Please be patient...the software will look like it's stuck but it really isn't.
Step 2: Migrating old e-mail to Outlook
Unfortunately there's no easy way to migrate existing e-mail from Thunderbird to Outlook. Outlook uses a totally different format for storing data than Thunderbird (or any other mail client for that matter), and outside of buying an expensive 3rd party migration tool our options are limited. The only thing I can suggest is to leave your old e-mail in Thunderbird for reference purposes and start fresh with Outlook.
If you choose to do this you'll want to reconfigure Thunderbird so it's no longer interacting with new e-mail. In Thunderbird click on "Tools -> Account Settings" up at the top. In the resulting window, in the column on the left, highlight the "Server Settings" option listed under your O365 e-mail account. In the window on the right UNcheck the "Check for new mail at startup", "Check for new messages every X minutes", and "Allow immediate server notifications..." options in the "Server Settings" section. Then click the "OK" button save those changes.
Step 3: Migrating addresses/contacts
Same problem as Step 2...no easy way to migrate this data to Outlook.
